Calgary Wins 2008 World Paddle Championships - 09/26/2006
Calgary, Alberta – Calgary will host the 2008 World Paddle Championships from August 23-30. Competing directly with Sao Paolo, Brazil Calgary has become the first Canadian city to host an international “Paddle” sport event of its kind.

Entry Fees:
- Team championships $250.00 U.S. per team entered.
- Open championships $50.00 U.S per team.
Transportation:
All transport related to tournament play and activities will be provided from arrival to Calgary Airport to departure.
Team Accommodations:
Accomodations will be covered for 8 nights beginning on August 23rd.
Team Meals:
Breakfast at the hotel, lunch and dinner will be at the tournament site.
Team Hosts:
Every team will have two bi-lingual hosts assigned to them.
Courts:
Four glass courts and a minimum of 3 practice courts.
Facilities:
Will have an athletes village atmosphere where all play, meals and events will take place.
Social / Cultural :
Events will be planned for athletes, guests, VIP's, and sponsors throughout the week.
Adopt A Team Program :
With the help and support of Calgary Tourism and The Paddle Association of Canada (PAC) the 2008 World Paddle Championship Committee was awarded the rights to host the 2008 World Paddle Championships in August.
For those of you who are not aware of the sport, Paddle is an exciting racquet sport that combines elements of tennis and squash it has been described as a "squash court in the sun." or "a tennis court with walls". Paddle is played in more than 20 countries around the world. 24 nations have been invited to participate in the World Championships, including: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, France, Germany, Holland, Israel, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, UK, Uruguay, USA and Venezuela..
We are seeking involvement and financial support from local ethnic clubs or associations and from International firms to make all of our foreign guests feel welcomed in Calgary and enjoy a first class event. Your involvement will help us assure that we run a first class event for each delegation attending.
Specific areas of support are as follows: Financial support for the team for travel and accommodations costs;
- Translators and hosts for the team members.
- Welcoming event while in the Calgary area.
- Volunteers for week's competitive events.
- Rally viewer participation at events/matches
