Rules of the Game

Paddle can best be described as a combination of several racquet sports with elements of Tennis, Squash and Badminton. The rules are based on Tennis, including the use of a Tennis ball and Tennis scoring system. The racquet is solid made mostly from light composite materials. The short paddle is much easier to control than the longer stringed racquets, so from the first time on court, novices of all ages and racquet skills can enjoy a well paced game with plenty of rallies. The use of end and side walls as well as an underhand serve makes Paddle a much easier game to learn for people of all ages and skills.

The Rules:

  1. Play begins with the serve from the right service court into the opponents court diagonally across.
  2. The server must allow the ball to bounce once before hitting it, and the ball must be struck below waist level.
  3. The server has two opportunities to complete the serve.
  4. The serve must land in the opponents court. If the ball bounces in the court and strikes the side or back walls it is good and must be played. If the ball lands in the opponents court and hits the mash or metal posts, it is no good.
  5. Tennis scoring system is used.
  6. The court lines are in play only during the serve, afterwards they are not a factor.
  7. A point is lost to opposing team when :
    • Ball bounces twice on your side.
    • Ball hits you or your partner.
    • Ball lands on your court and bounces up over the walls or mesh fencing and out of play.
    • Ball is double hit, scooped or carried.
    • Ball is hit by both players before going over the net.
    • Ball does not cross over the net.
    • Ball hits the mesh, walls or any other fixture or structure before landing on the court. The ball can be played off the back walls or solid side walls before going over the net.
