Project Plan Adopted and Organizing Committee Formed
Calgary, Alberta - September 15, 2007. Hosting an international championship is no small task. There are literally hundreds if not thousands of things that need to be done in order to prepare for and actually put on a championship event.
The President of the Paddle Association of Canada, Bill Stamile, recognized that in order to successfully host and execute the 2008 World Paddle Championships, a structured project plan and organization needed to be put in place.
At an organizational meeting held September 12, 2007 a plan for preparing and delivering a flawlessly executed championship sporting and cultural event was presented and approved. The plan was prepared by a professional project manager and includes a detailed definition of the work, the organization and the timing needed to prepare for and complete this event.
A volunteer Organizing Committee under the chairmanship of Bill Stamile was also formed at this meeting. The structure of this committee is comprised of an Executive Group and a Leadership Group whose collective responsibility is to lead and manage the work detailed in the project plan.
The lofty goal and promises of the Bid Committee as stated in the bid … "to make the 2008 World Championships the best ever and a model for future World Paddle Championships..." coupled with the scale of the event will take the time, effort and energy of dedicated people to effectively prepare for and run the event to ensure it happens as promised.
The plan and organizing committee is now in place to make this happen.
