Adopt-A-Team Program Underway
Calgary, Alberta - January 16, 2008. The 2008 World Paddle Championships will be a celebration and an event that goes beyond pure sport featuring cultural celebrations, ethnic community participation and several non-sporting events to coincide with the championships.
A unique program to engage the community at large during the championship week is underway in Calgary. The program is called Adopt-A-Team, and it provides ethnic clubs and community organizations the opportunity to play host to "their" national teams and delegations from around the world.
Calgary is famous for its hospitality. We want all of our foreign guests to feel welcome to our city and to enjoy their visit. So the Organizing Committee is looking to local world community associations to step up and help make this a truly memorable event to not only assure that national teams will feel at home in Canada, but to be supporters in the stands to help make this an exciting tournament.
Community organizations can get involved in a number of ways:
- Providing financial support for the team for travel and accommodations costs
- As translators and hosts for the team members
- Hosting a welcoming event for visiting national teams
- Volunteering at the venue
- Rallying spectator participation at events and matches
The Organizing Committee is now contacting the broader community to join us in hosting the 2008 World Paddle Championships.
